Comprehensive Child Eye Tests – Caring for Young Eyes

Every child deserves to see the world clearly. At Susan Hilton Opticians, we provide gentle, professional children’s eye tests from as early as age 2. We recommend that children have their eyes examined before the age of 7, as early intervention can make a lasting difference to their vision, learning and overall development.

Your Child’s Vision

  • Clear vision plays a vital role in a child’s growth and education — in fact, around 80% of what is taught in schools is presented visually. If a child struggles to see properly, it can affect not only their learning but also their confidence and social development.

Many children are unaware they have a vision problem, and parents may not notice until it starts to impact schoolwork or behaviour. Regular eye examinations for children ensure issues are detected early, so the right treatment and support can be provided.

  • tell-tale signs that there could be something wrong include struggling to recognise colours and shapes; frequently bumping into things; not showing any interest in learning to read; not progressing or being disengaged at school; complaining about headaches and sitting very close to the TV.

You may also recognise some physical signs, including:

    Rubbing eyes frequently

Squinting, head-tilting or closing one eye when trying to focus

One eye turning in or out

    Blinking a lot

    Excessive tearing

Red, sore or encrusted eye lid

If you’re transferring from another Optician, we can supply lenses to your child’s current frames, and prescriptions from elsewhere are also welcome.

  • Not only is the test free, but should your child require vision correction, you may be eligible for a voucher from the NHS towards the cost. Read here for more information…
